Spring Cleaning Checklist
Spring is on the way! Those beautiful spring breezes are on the way and tiny buds are already visible on the trees. Now’s the time to get rid of all the grit and grime that winter has left behind and tackle those jobs you have been putting off all year long. This list is filled with tips on cleaning out those areas where winter has hit us the hardest.
Start at the Front Door
Sweep and mop the foyer, clean windows, and door glass until they are sparkling to creating a welcoming entryway.
Scrub down the front door on both sides. Add a spring wreath to give some color and freshness to the front door.
Give the foyer baseboards a good soapy cleaning. Use something with a fresh scent that will welcome guests.
Move to the Mudroom
If your mudroom is also your laundry room, pull out the washer and dryer to clean beneath them. Vacuum in, around and under the dryer as much as you can and vacuum as far into each end of the duct from inside and outside the house to keep in perfect condition.
Now is a great time to sanitize the washing machine. This is easily done by running 2 cups of vinegar in an empty load.
Dig into the sock basket and toss out socks that don’t have mates.
Make Some Tracks
Vacuum sliding glass door tracks. This is a spot that gets pretty grimy from rain, dirt, and snow being tracked in.
Clean the track around your windows, as well. Use a duster or brush to loosen dirt and cobwebs that have collected around your windows. Then use a cloth and some warm, soapy water to wipe up the rest of the grime.
Kitchen curtains and blinds attract airborne dust and odor molecules and should be cleaned once a year. Use a vacuum attachment to clean the blinds or a damp cloth if they are really dirty
Living Room
Carpets can hide dirt, pollen, and pet dander and should be deep cleaned at least once per year. While we don’t clean carpets, but we do move furniture out of the way for you so you won’t miss anything.
Upholstered furniture is another task to tackle. Do a quick test in a hidden spot to make sure the cleaning solution doesn’t discolor the fabric.
Once you are certain you won’t be using your fireplace, take a shop vacuum to suck up the ashes, then use damp paper towels to wipe away the rest. As for the chimney, it’s important to get your chimney cleaned at least once a year. This will eliminate soot buildup that poses both a fire hazard and a breathing hazard.
Bedroom
Mattresses gather dust, dust mites, and body soil and should be cleaned and repositioned at least once a year. Vacuum the top and sides and don't forget the box springs if you have them. Spot treat any stains with a solution of mild dish detergent and water. Rinse the area with a cloth dipped in plain water and then allow to dry thoroughly. To speed drying, use a hair dryer set on low but avoid excessive heat.
You may want to flip the mattress over or at least rotate it, so it wears evenly.
Kitchen
Take a section of cabinets at a time and empty them completely. Wipe down shelves and reline with shelf paper if needed.
Clean and degrease the top of your fridge, back splash, stove hood, and cabinet doors.
Linen Closet
Just once a year, empty out your linen closet and give it a thorough cleaning. Take time to vacuum away dust and spiderwebs and reline any shelves. Check each items for stains, tears or wear before you put it back in the closet.
Documents and Files
There always seems to be a great deal of paper that accumulates during the year. If you haven't been quite as organized as you planned, now is the time to go through the paperwork on your desk and shred it, throw it out or file it away.
Vacuum around your vents
To clean out heating ducts and air conditioning vents, use the soft brush (the one with the bristles) on your vacuum cleaner and run it over the slats to prevent dust from blowing through your home all year long.
Business
It is not just your house that needs a once a year, deep clean. Your office and business can benefit from some TLC, as well.
Dust all surfaces, including artwork, wall fixtures, signs, stairs, lights, and benches
Wipe down all the benches and surfaces, including the undersides.
