Outdoor Cleaning Checklist
Warmer weather signals the time for you to get outside and have some fun in the great outdoors. Before you make plans, make sure to clean off your outdoor furniture, grill and tackle your windows. Here are some simple solutions to make those outdoor projects shine.
Windows
For a thorough exterior window cleaning all you need is a little soapy water and window cleaner Start by carefully scrubbing down your screens and use a broom to clear away loose dirt, spiderwebs, and other debris from the window frames.
Grab your hose and rinse the panes. You can use a bit of soapy water for caked-on dirt or debris. Finish by drying them with a microfiber cloth.
Grab a squeegee for a streak-free shine on your windows. You can use window cleaner or a solution of one part vinegar to two parts water.
Outdoor furniture
No one wants to sit on a grimy patio chair or eat at a dirty table.
If your furniture is wood, Murphy’s Oil Soap will bring back its luster.
For plastic, mix 1/2 cup baking soda mixed with 1-gallon warm water, or 3 tablespoons dishwasher detergent (which contains a mild bleaching agent) and 1 gallon of warm water. For colored plastic, mix 1/4-cup vinegar with 1 quart of warm water.
Avoid bleach on white plastic furniture because it eat away at the material.
Grill
Your grill is the star of the summer season, so give it a good cleaning inside and out. Start by removing the grates from the grill and, wearing gloves, scrub the grates using oven cleaner.
Wipe down the outside of the grill using warm soapy water and dry with a clean cloth.
Outdoor Lights
You may not give your outdoor lighting much thought, but this season show these fixtures some love.
Gently remove dust, leaves, and bugs with a clean cloth or soft brush—a paintbrush works well.
