Breaking Bad Cleaning Habits
Now is the perfect time to break some of your old cleaning habits and get a fresh start on the New Year. Whether it is dirty dishes in the sink or papers piling up on your desk, the Maids of Movher can help you develop better habits for a cleaner home this new year.
Make Your Bed Everyday
Surveys have found that 71% of bed makers consider themselves happy, while 62% of non-bed-makers admit to being unhappy. Begin each morning by making your bed and that new habit will lead to a cleaner room. Here is another tip, make this habit easier by getting rid of throw pillows and decorative blankets.
Paper Pile Up
Designate a place for paper and decide what’s worth keeping, what needs immediate action, and what can go BEFORE it goes into the pile. Also, have a space for receipts or upcoming bills. That will keep them from being neglected or discarded. Additional tip: Many apps allow you to scan important documents to be logged digitally.
Dirty Dishes in the Sink
Leaving dirty dishes in the sink can create a whole host of unpleasantries, including foul odors and attracting insects. Start by creating a dishwashing schedule for your family. When it is someone’s day to wash dishes, it is their job to make sure the dishes in the sink get washed. If you have a dishwasher, remind everyone in the household to put their dishes in the dishwasher immediately!
Dirty Cleaning Supplies
If you’re haven’t cleaned off your cleaning tools like your broom, kitchen sponges or mop, you can actually be collecting harmful germs into the fabrics and surfaces of your home.
Cleaning a broom: Use warm, soapy water and soak your broom for at least 30 minutes.
Cleaning a sponge: Ensure your kitchen sponge isn’t damaged (this may indicate you need a replacement), and then soak it in a bowl of full-strength vinegar for 5 minutes.
Cleaning a vacuum: Empty the vacuum canister or bag and use a disinfectant wipe inside (if possible) to remove all the dust and debris that’s built up over time.
